Lithuania’s agricultural product processing company Kauno Grudai (Kaunas Grain) operated by businessman Tautvydas Barstys on July 31st exported about 20 tons of chicken products to Japan, becoming the first Lithuanian company to export poultry to one of the biggest Asian markets. Arvi Kalakutai should follow suit shortly, writes LETA/BNS.
“After receipt of clearance for Lithuanian producers to export poultry and its products to Japan early this year, we received inquiries right away, therefore, exactly six months later we prepared the first order and the first shipment of heat-treated chicken products has been assembled,” Barstys told BNS.
The first shipment left the Klaipeda port on Monday. The company says it included production of Vilnius and Kaisiadorys poultry farms.
Arvi Kalakutai, a turkey meat product manufacturing and trade company, expects to open poultry exports to Japan shortly. The company’s CEO Matas Niparavicius said that the products and prices had been finalized with Japan, however, could not specify the date of dispatch.
At the end of January, Japan issued certificates for exports of poultry and poultry products from Lithuania.
