19.02.2010 Russians may face shortage of red meat
According to Russian analysts, the so-called small-scale production currently accounted about 50% of the local meat industry.

In most cases the production of such companies is usually expensive, and they cannot ensure a regular supply of quality products to the market. One way out of this situation could be a significant enlargement and further consolidation of the industry.

Also, despite the efforts of the Russian government to stimulate the domestic meat production with the help of huge loans, a real increase in production is expected no sooner than in the 2015-2017 year, especially in the cattle industry.

Currently imports account for 25%-30% of total meat consumption in Russia, while the share of the domestic producers is no more than 65%-70%.

As such, Russia always experiences a certain lack of meat. "Because of this lack meat production, the market prices are very unstable," stated Sergey Yushin, President of the Russian National Meat Union (NMA).
